The South Lake Church of Christ is a Non-Denominational church. This is important because we believe in the Bible and making every effort to follow the teachings of Jesus. The South Lake Church of Christ is part of the International Churches of Christ.
So what does this mean and what’s in it for you?
Our church is a family. We actually get to know each other on a deeper level and spend a lot of time together doing fun stuff as well as spiritual activities. Family is important and everyone wants to feel like they belong somewhere on a deeper level.
What does Non-Denominational mean? It means we are Christians. A lot of churches will say they are Christians but belong to some sort of denomination such as Catholic or Baptist, etc. We make no such claim, we are a Discipling ministry which means we help other people become Disciples of Christ (which is where the term Christian really came from) If you want to learn more about that, check out the site or simply ask one of the members.
We study the Bible. The South Lake Church of Christ believes firmly in the Scriptures. We use a lot of it in our services and in our Bible Studies (Sunday Morning) If you are looking for a church that is rooted in the Bible, uses the Bible, and is inspired by the Bible, you have found the right place.
The Church believes in Baptism. You will see several videos of baptisms of new members. If you have questions about Baptism, as many people do, we offer a fantastic study series on that important subject.
The South Lake Church of Christ grows. We do not sit still but instead believe in sharing our faith. We want our friends, families and coworkers to feel like they belong to a strong community and more importantly apply the scriptures to their lives. We are evangelistic, that is how our church grows. A lot of churches only grow when a baby is born. Our church grows because people see that our members are happy and plugged in and they want to become a part of that.
We believe in the small group philosophy. In order for everyone to stay plugged in, we divide our membership into smaller groups called Bible Talks. The groups give us the chance to do things together on a smaller more informal level as well as the opportunity to get to know each other. A lot of churches are so big that you can literally get lost in the crowd. This small group approach works very well for us.
What does campus ministry and teen ministry mean? Campus Ministry is simply a small group in the church of college students. We currently focus on Lake Sumter State College here in Clermont Florida. The Campus students have all kinds of activities that are for college students only. The same goes for the teen ministry which is also known as youth ministry. This group is for teens and all their activities are geared for this age group. Both groups are led by interns in the SLCOC.
Where did we come from? We were originally part of the Orlando Church of Christ. As time went on and more and more people from Clermont and Winter Garden were joining the church, we realized that it was time to plant a church in the Clermont Florida area to help serve the needs of the church locally.
Why should you check out this church? Lots of people move to an area and “church shop” Most are looking for some sort of synergy, or a good “warm fuzzy” We invite you to visit and get to know our members and ask deep questions. We want you to choose a church that is biblical (sadly, not all are) and one that follows the teachings of the Bible. One thing you will find is that we are very friendly and no one falls into the cracks, we strive to make everyone feel welcome and will make every effort to get to know you.
We have a children’s ministry that provides Bible class for our kids. Your children are always welcome to join. These classes currently run during the bible study portion of our service which is at 10 am. After that we have the children in the service with us. While some people may think that is distracting, we are currently testing it and have found some excellent results. Our kids are truly enjoying singing and participating in the service. Teaching our kids how to worship God together is working very well. If you find that you are too distracted with your kids in the service, please let us know and we will find a solution for you.
We have Answers. The SLCOC believes that the tough issues and questions in life can be answered from the Bible. We have great studies that include these topics:
Hopefully this page has helped you formulate a good idea of who we really are. Of course, the best way is to actually come out and join our worship service for a day!
We also meet on Wednesday for a midweek service, that starts at 7:30 pm.
