What do you love?
Lets say you “enjoy” those things rather than say you love them. When you say you love them, it diminishes the word as God intended it.
6 Do not forsake wisdom, and she will protect you;
love her, and she will watch over you.
17 I love those who love me,
and those who seek me find me.
21 bestowing a rich inheritance on those who love me
and making their treasuries full.
36 But those who fail to find me harm themselves;
all who hate me love death.”
8 Do not rebuke mockers or they will hate you;
rebuke the wise and they will love you.
12 Hatred stirs up conflict,
but love covers over all wrongs. Ask so if I love does that fix everything?
17 Better a small serving of vegetables with love
than a fattened calf with hatred.
9 Whoever would foster love covers over an offense,
but whoever repeats the matter separates close friends.
21 The tongue has the power of life and death,
and those who love it will eat its fruit.
13 Do not love sleep or you will grow poor;
stay awake and you will have food to spare.
22 What a person desires is unfailing love;
better to be poor than a liar.
Whoever pursues righteousness and love
finds life, prosperity and honor.
Better is open rebuke
than hidden love.
Those are the Proverbs that speak in probabilities of love. Now lets look at what love needs to be combined with. This leads to importance in the NT.
Love and Faithfulness are connected
3 Let love and faithfulness never leave you;
bind them around your neck,
write them on the tablet of your heart.
22 Do not those who plot evil go astray?
But those who plan what is good find love and faithfulness.
6 Through love and faithfulness sin is atoned for;
through the fear of the Lord evil is avoided.
28 Love and faithfulness keep a king safe;
through love his throne is made secure.
8 for he guards the course of the just
and protects the way of his faithful ones.
6 Many claim to have unfailing love, (unconditional love)
but a faithful person who can find?
6 Wounds from a friend can be trusted,
but an enemy multiplies kisses. (Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.)
20 A faithful person will be richly blessed,
but one eager to get rich will not go unpunished.
26 She speaks with wisdom,
and faithful instruction is on her tongue.
Rhetorical question: Are you faithful?
How can you become faithful? (understanding love) Maybe giving unfailing love, its what we all want.
Love and faithfulness are fruits of the Spirit.
